La Belle de la Mer

In 2025, I wrote and published three new ghost stories. “Absolution” and “Sands Point” were published online at Chelsea Station magazine.

My ghost story “La Belle de la Mer” was written for the anthology Final Curtain, Tales Inspired by The Phantom of the Opera, edited by Steve Berman and published by Lethe Press.  Lethe Press was the original publisher of my collection of gay-themed ghost stories, The Haunted Heart and Other Tales.

“La Belle de la Mer” is a contemporary ghost story about an author who is haunted by the memory of his close friend, an actor who was an early casualty of AIDS. The genesis of this tale stems from an outing I made with a friend who was ill to see the original Broadway production of the musical version of The Phantom of the Opera.

“Currier’s voice here is a very close first person, matter of fact, economical with its figurative language until the end. A companion in tragedy, but an aesthetic counterpoint.”—Compulsive Reader

“Capturing much of the menace and enchantment of the original, this will be a treat for Phantom fans.”—Publishers Weekly
